Big environmental decisions are being made right now – and they will impact our country for years to come.

Canadians can’t trust the Conservatives to act on climate-changing emissions.

Stephen Harper withdrew from Kyoto. He cancelled the home retrofit program that helped cut emissions and families’ energy bills. Then he failed to deliver the public transit strategy we need to get cars off the road.

And in 2010 when MPs passed Jack Layton’s bill setting emissions targets? Unelected Conservative senators struck it down.

Now Tom Mulcair’s New Democrats are determined to finish what Jack started – passing that bill into law.

We the undersigned residents of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following:

  • That Canadians are concerned about inaction by our federal government to address climate change and the impact of climate change on their day-to-day lives;
  • That the federal government cancelled the EcoEnergy Retrofit Program that saved Canadians millions of dollars in future energy costs by making their homes more energy efficient;
  • That the federal government gives billions of dollars in taxpayers’ money to the oil and gas industries in subsidies;
  • That the federal government needs to invest in an efficient and reliable public transit system to reduce gridlock and pollution and allow Canadians to spend less time stuck in traffic every day

Therefore, we call on the Government of Canada to support the New Democratic Caucus’ Climate Change Accountability Act – a law that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and hold the government accountable.
