No Canadian should be denied high-quality care, especially in their final days

But for the majority of Canadians, access to end-of-life care is limited. And as the population ages, there has never been a more important time to tackle this issue head-on.

That’s why New Democrats are calling for a national strategy to guarantee home-based and hospice end-of-life care across the country.

Because every Canadian should have access to quality health care when they need it the most.

We the undersigned residents of Canada note the following:

  • Canada’s population is aging and less than a third of Canadians have access to quality, end-of-life care.
  • Huge disparities exist in access to home-based and hospice palliative care across the country
  • The federal government must work with its provincial and territorial counterparts to provide more support to caregivers, improve the quality and consistency of care in urban and rural communities and encourage Canadians to plan with their families for end-of-life care.
  • New Democrats proposed such a Pan-Canadian end-of-life care strategy that Parliament passed with the support of the Conservative majority government. They have no excuse for inaction.

Therefore, we call on the Government of Canada to implement M-456 and ensure all Canadians have access to high-quality, home-based and hospice palliative care at the end of life. It is time to see a comprehensive plan for end-of-life care.
